Casa Bruja - Mergoscia (TI)
Welcome to a traditional Ticino rustico that a German journalist and writer bought in the early 1960s as a writing retreat. He christened the house "Casa Bruja", which is admittedly Spanish and not Italian. Translated, the name means something like "witch's house". In German, however, the Spanish "bruja" sounds like the "Bruch" in "Bruchbude". Because the rustico was not much more than that back then. And since then it has been a work in progress: whenever the family has been coming for more than 60 years, it is repaired - and above all improved. For them, the house is a very personal, individual place, sometimes with the charm of the imperfect! Here you can find a convivial atmosphere and at the same time enjoy the peace and relaxation of the place with a beautiful, wide view of the reservoir, Lago di Vogorno, Lago Maggiore and the mountains behind which Italy already begins.
The holiday home consists of two buildings, each with two floors, a courtyard, a small garden with stone table and panoramic view, and a sun terrace. The house also has a private covered parking space with room for two cars. The house has two double bedrooms with single beds, a bathroom with bathtub, a kitchen with dining area and a living room with fireplace.
The simply but lovingly furnished rooms are on the 2nd floor and can be reached via an outside staircase. The bathroom is located separately in the second building and is accessible via the courtyard.
Mergoscia is a beautiful mountain village with today around 200 inhabitants. It is located at about 700 meters above sea level on a sunny south-facing side at the entrance to the Verzasca Valley. The breathtaking view, the tranquility and the great nature are the elements that characterize Mergoscia. Mergoscia is also the starting point for many hiking routes. From here you can reach the Monti di Lego, Corippo and Lavertezzo, Cardada and Cimetta, Monte Trosa, Alpe di Bietri, as well as the Verzasca dam, which is world-famous from the James Bond film "Goldeneye".
Mergoscia can be reached by car in around 15 minutes from Locarno and Tenero. Bus 312 takes around 40 minutes from Locarno train station. The nearer station to Casa Bruja is called Mergoscia, Bivio per Rivapiana and its 5 minutes’ walk away.

In the heart of Ticino’s Verzasca Valley, the double-arched Ponte dei Salti gracefully spans the emerald-green waters of the Verzasca River near the village of Lavertezzo. Built in the 17th century and restored in 1960, this medieval stone bridge is one of Switzerland’s most photographed landmarks — admired for its elegant curves, crystal-clear pools below, and the harmony between nature and architecture.
The turquoise Verzasca River flows beneath the bridge with remarkable clarity, winding between smooth granite rocks and creating perfect spots for swimming, sunbathing, or taking unforgettable photos. The entire area feels timeless — a place where nature, tradition, and tranquility meet.

Its maze of narrow alleys winds between grey-granite houses topped with slate roofs, all built in perfect harmony with the rugged mountain landscape. Because of its unique architecture and setting, Corippo has been declared a protected heritage site of national importance.
Visitors come here to slow down, breathe the pure mountain air, and enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the Verzasca Valley.
How to get there
