Casa Bruja - Mergoscia (Ticino)
Welcome to a traditional Ticino rustico that a German journalist and writer bought in the early 1960s as a writing retreat. He named the house "Casa Bruja", which is admittedly Spanish and not Italian. Translated, the name means "witch's house". In German, however, the Spanish "bruja" sounds like the "Bruch" in "Bruchbude". Because the rustico was not much more than that back then. And since then it has been a work in progress: whenever the family has been coming for more than 60 years, it is repaired - and above all improved. For them, the house is a very personal, individual place, sometimes with the charm of the imperfect! Here you can find a convivial atmosphere and at the same time enjoy the peace and relaxation of the place with a beautiful, wide view of the Lake Vogorno (also known as Lake Verzasca), Lake Maggiore and the surrounding mountains.
The holiday home consists of two buildings, each with two floors, a courtyard, a small garden with stone table with panoramic view, and a sun terrace. The house also has a private covered parking space with room for two cars.
KITCHEN / LIVING ROOM
A kitchen with dining area is fully equipped and features a refrigerator with freezer compartment, electric stove, toaster, oven and a Bialetti moka coffee pot. Upon request, a grill is available for use on sunny days, perfect for outdoor cooking.
Oil, vinegar, salt & pepper are provided.
The living room, with a cozy fireplace (please bring your own wood), offers a comfortable sofa and a well-stocked library with a wide selection of books, as well as games for fun and relaxation.
BEDROOMS
The simply but lovingly furnished rooms are on the 2nd floor and can be reached via an outside staircase.
Both bedrooms have a window with a panoramic view of the lake: The first bedroom features a double bed, made up of two single mattresses (80 × 200 cm). The second bedroom has two single beds (each 80 × 200 cm).
All mattresses and pillows are covered with OEKO-TEX® STANDARD certified, hypoallergenic, breathable, and antibacterial covers.
BATHROOM
The bathroom is located separately in the second building and is accessible via the courtyard. The bathroom with bathtub, toilet, sink and washing machine is fully equipped with fresh towels, a hairdryer, soap, and shampoo for your comfort. All household products, including dishwashing liquid and cleaning supplies, are natural and environmentally friendly, so you can enjoy your stay sustainably.
INTERNET
High-speed Wi-Fi (150 Mbit/s) is available throughout the house.

In the heart of Ticino’s Verzasca Valley, the double-arched Ponte dei Salti gracefully spans the emerald-green waters of the Verzasca River near the village of Lavertezzo. Built in the 17th century and restored in 1960, this medieval stone bridge is one of Switzerland’s most photographed landmarks — admired for its elegant curves, crystal-clear pools below, and the harmony between nature and architecture.
The turquoise Verzasca River flows beneath the bridge with remarkable clarity, winding between smooth granite rocks and creating perfect spots for swimming, sunbathing, or taking unforgettable photos. The entire area feels timeless — a place where nature, tradition, and tranquility meet.
Connection with Mergoscia

Perched high on the slopes of the Verzasca Valley in southern Switzerland, Corippo is one of the most enchanting and best-preserved traditional villages in Ticino. Its maze of narrow alleys winds between grey-granite houses topped with slate roofs, all built in perfect harmony with the rugged mountain landscape. Because of its unique architecture and setting, Corippo has been declared a protected heritage site of national importance.
Visitors come here to slow down, breathe the pure mountain air, and enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the Verzasca Valley.
How to get there
